About Eriochrome Black T
To put it simply, Eriochrome Black T is an indicator used in many titration reactions. More specifically, it’s a complexometric indicator, which means it undergoes a colour change in the presence of specific metal ions. In this case, Eriochrome Black T is able to detect calcium, aluminium and magnesium by turning from blue/black (protonated form) to red (complexed form). Other similar indicators include, for example, hematoxylin for copper or curcumin for boron.
