About EP Water
EP water is a grade of water that meets the stringent requirements of the European Pharmacopoeia. This is an internationally-recognised standard that guarantees a certain level of quality to the products that meet its specification.
The European Pharmacopoeia
The European Pharmacopoeia provides industries throughout Europe with common quality standards. They ensure the quality of substances used to manufacture medicines or other pharmaceutical grade products, including active ingredients, excipients and water.
The European Pharmacopoeia is mandatory in Europe and is used to ensure the safety of the public. By reintroducing EP water in our online shop, ReAgent is expanding its business so that it meets the specific requirements of a wider range of business.
Grades of Water
There are a number of Pharmacopoeia water grades besides European Pharmacopoeia water. These include:
- USP (United States Pharmacopoeia) Water
- BP (British Pharmacopoeia) Water
- JP (Japanese Pharmacopoeia) Water
Each of these grades is slightly different, but one thing they all have in common is their high purity levels, as well as their stringent pH and conductivity requirements.
Properties of EP Water
EP water, as well as all other waters manufactured to the European Pharmacopoeia standard, contains extremely low impurity levels. This is because it is a requirement that Pharmacopoeia grade water has minimal traces of contaminants. At ReAgent, our EP water contains (in parts per million):
- Heavy Metals: less than 0.2 ppm
- Nitrates: less than 0.1 ppm
- Chlorides: less than 70 ppm
- Sulphates: less than 250 ppm
In addition, this product is manufactured by ReAgent to have a TVC (total viable content) of less than 100. TVC is a measurement of things like bacteria, yeasts and mould species.
Pharmacopoeia grade water must also meet certain conductivity and pH specifications. This water product meets all of these requirements and has a pH between 5 and 8 as well as a conductivity of less than 5.1 microsiemens.
ReAgent’s EP water also passes the Oxidisable Substances Test and after evaporation, the residue it leaves it behind is less than 100 ppm.
